Thinking about what I’m going to write for my pop promo critical analysis essay for uni, it has to be in on Thursday and 700 words minimum. I’m doing 30 Seconds To Mars “Closer To The Edge”. Meh, I’ll get a sudden brainwave in a bit =)
More music blogging
I really should write more about music on this blog. That was the whole point of it.
With the way the music industry is today, I thought it would be obvious that the bursts of “new music” would be different styles and genres of music, but no, it’s all pretty much the same. It’s all manufactured boybands and girl groups. All singing about love and being in love and the feeling of heartbreak and the ending of relationships.
The music is all on a backing track, along with the vocals, and the “artists” are just miming as most Top 40 “musicians” are doing in this day and age. It is completely mind boggling that people are in bands or making music just for the sake of being famous. It’s saddening, especially when bands like Nirvana played music because they loved music and never wanted to be famous, they just cared about the music, not the money. During the making of Nevermind (although it’s not my favourite album) Kurt Cobain was living in his car because he didn’t have a home. Even when he did get his share of the money for the sales of Nevermind, instead of buying a brand new top of the range sports car, Kurt brought a second hand car.
What is annoying is that bands like Nirvana aren’t as appreciated these days, the musicians that defined an entire genre, a band who influenced many of the bands that real people listen to today. Not some manufactured pop bands that aren’t even any good, yet people still seem to love them, and for what?
Over the past couple of days I’ve found something truly horrible out. My baby sister, 10 only ten years old has had the horrible experience of being bullied by a girl much bigger then she. On Saturday night while at a sleep over, this spiteful little girl grabbed my sisters arm and held a piping hot curling tong to my sisters arm for a long time! How fucked up is that? What’s more fucked up is that that nasty little girl stood and laughed at my sister while she was doing it.
I am truly disgusted. Why would someone at the age of 10 do something like that to someone else? She’s my baby sister and believe me, I am going to make sure that it NEVER happens to her again.
Sometimes you have to be away from the people you love, but that doesn’t make you love them any less. Sometimes you love them more. (soo true)

A couple of bands that I recommend.
Envy on the Coast- although they broke up last year I still recommend that you listen to them. I reviewed their album Lucy Gray for my university portfolio. They’re an alternative rock band from New York, long island to be more precise. Anyways, with songs like Lapse, a beautifully mellow and melodic song, to the more rocky Mirrors and my absolute favourite song Tell Them That She’s Not Scared, the band are definitely alternative. They have the hard rock sound, the distressed/screamy vocals, the very catchy lyrics and the beautiful melodies. As I said, they may have split, but check them out anyways. I had the luck of seeing them live in 2008.
Another band that I am quite fond of are Meg and Dia. Not all that well in England but I was able to see their very first UK show in 2008, incidentally, it was the Give It a Name festival in London, also the same place I saw Envy on the Coast play their first UK show :-). Meg and Dia are sisters hailing from st George, Utah. Dia’s vocals are soft, yet they carry exceptionally well, her voice is strong. If you like female fronted rock/indie bands, check Meg and Dia out, they also have some beautiful acoustic songs like Indiana.
